OPERA AMERICA
This 2010 production of Richard Strauss's SALOME, performed at Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center (Cedar Falls IA) and filmed by Iowa PBS, will be aired as the January installment of CROpera's digital 2nd Thursday Series. Lead by Stage Director Gregory Keller and Conductor Daniel Kleinknecht, the cast for this production included soprano Amy Johnson (Salome), mezzo soprano Katharine Goeldner (Herodias), tenor Jeffrey Dowd (Herod), and bass-baritone Mark Schnaible (Jochanaan).
Keller employed a contemporary setting for this biblical story, stating "I do feel strongly that although perfunctorily set in the time of Herod Antipas, this is truly a 20th century musical and dramatic work that speaks directly to our modern world of luxury and indulgence, where faith seems to be in constant crisis."
This event and all other 2nd Thursday Series installments, are available free of charge. CROpera's 2nd Thursday Series runs September 2020 through May 2021.
